Meet Some of the Artists In Generations 7

Last week I had the pleasure of going to A.I.R.'s holiday party and talk to some of the women in Generations 7 A.I.R.'s benefit exhibition and silent auction of works by women artists.

There are over 150 participants! Meet four of them:

Tiffany Webber

"I like to participate in the A.I.R. Generations show, I like what the gallery stands for and I like to contribute to that. I seem to have good luck at the shows here...I've been in the show three times and I've been able to sell in the show...I think it's my good luck charm!"

Tiffany's piece is Girl in the City paper collage board, 2007. Min bid. $100.00

Jasmine Valentina

"I think it is a really good opportunity for women to be part of a show and not have to go through a rigorous application process...A.I.R. is important because women artists are still struggling to get their art shown."

Jasmine's piece is Nipple Broach #3 embroidery, 2009. Min bid. $10.00

Toby Needler

"I really appreciate A.I.R. is having a show like this and providing an opportunity for people to show their work. I love the way they organize their work, they really did a great job! Many places have group shows like this, but A.I.R. does it in such a nice way."

Toby's piece is Landscape hand drawn collage/mixed media, 2009. Min bid. $100.00

Jen Nugent

"All the work in the show is really strong and I feel very privileged to be apart of it!"

Jen's piece is Untitled, mixed media, 2009. Min bid. $50.00

You still have time to bid on these and the other 146 works in the silent auction! It ends January 3rd @ 4pm. Works that have a bid by December 19th and are intended as holiday gifts may be picked up between 11am-6pm from December 19th through December 23rd.

Happy bidding!!

Forty pecent of sales will support the A.I.R. Fellowship Progra, for Emerging and Underrepresented Women Artsts, as well as other A.I.R. exhibitions and programs. Mother/mother-* is a group exhibition curated by artist and 2008-2009 A.I.R. Gallery Fellow Jennifer Wroblewski. The exhibition is of works made by artists within the years immediately following a pregnancy or the birth of a child. The artists live and work in the U.S., Canada, Scotland, England, and Spain. For the purpose of the exhibition, the title Mother/mother-* also refers to father artists. "Mother" is the term that elicits the great frisson when uttered within the larger art culture.

Saturday December 12th from 6-8pm there will be a special film and video screening by artists Marie-Francoise Theodore, Emilie Upzak, Ingrid Berthon-Moine, and Ilana Rein.

Hope to see you this week at A.I.R. & be on the lookout for a video interview with Jennifer Wroblewski and artists in Generations.
